ESPN3 Replay | ESPN Highlights
SAN ANTONIO, Texas
– Behind an outstanding all-around performance from Chandler Hall, Texas
State no-hit Sam Houston State 3-0 to win the 2012 Southland Conference
Tournament at Roadrunner Field in San Antonio, Texas. It was Bobcats sixth
overall tournament title and third in four years. Texas State claims the conference’s
automatic bid to the NCAA Softball Tournament.
Hall,
the 2012 tournament most valuable player, was unhittable in the circle against
the Bearkats, tossing her second no-hitter of the season. In 7.0 innings of
work, Hall struck out nine hitters and did not allow a walk. A fielding error
on a tough bounce was the only thing standing between Hall and perfection. For
the tournament, Hall went 2-0 with two complete games. In 14.0 innings in the circle,
Hall allowed only one run on four hits and recorded 17 strike outs with no
walks.
Hall not
only controlled the game on the rubber, the senior was also the force behind
the Bobcats’ offense in the championship. Hall, the regular-season player and
pitcher of the year, got the scoring going early for the Bobcats in the first
inning by knocking a single to left field to plate the first run of the run.
The Baytown, Texas, native also started the Bobcats’ fourth-inning rally by
leading to inning with a single to center. Pinch runner Brittney Garcia
relieved Hall on the base path and made it around to score the second run of
the game on a throwing error. The Bobcats continued its momentum in the inning
by scoring another run on a suicide squeeze from sophomore Jordan Masek,
pushing Coralee Ramirez across the plate to give Texas State all its runs at
3-0.
Texas
State (38-15) will wait to hear its postseason fate tonight at 9 p.m. CDT on
the NCAA Softball Selection Show, which will air live on ESPNU. Sam Houston
State concludes a successful 2012 campaign with a 29-21 overall record.
