FRISCO, Texas – Lamar junior running back Kade Harrington, McNeese State senior safety Wallace Scott and Central Arkansas sophomore wide receiver/punt returner Brandon Cox earned Southland Conference Football Player of the Week honors presented by UniversalCoin.com, the league office announced Monday. Harrington took offensive honors while Scott was named defensive player of the week and Cox was tabbed the top special teams player.

Offensive Player of the Week:  Kade Harrington, Lamar
Harrington set a Lamar and Southland Conference single-game rushing record with 347 yards in the Cardinals’ 44-28 win over Abilene Christian. The junior from Kingwood, Texas (Kingwood H.S.), has rushed for more than 100 yards in all three conference games this season. With his second and final touchdown on the night, Harrington became the school’s all-time leading scorer, breaking a mark that had been held since 1959. His 365 all-purpose yards also set a single-game school record. Harrington’s 347 rushing yards shattered the old league mark of 310 yards set by Texas State’s Claude Mathis in 1996. He is only the fourth Southland player to rush for more than 300 yards in a single game.

Honorable Mention: Hayden Hildebrand, Central Arkansas; Zach Conque, Stephen F. Austin; LaDarius Brown, Sam Houston State.

Defensive Player of the Week:  Wallace Scott, McNeese State
Scott was the leader on the McNeese State defense that held the league’s top rushing offense to only 59 yards in the Cowboys’ 21-7 win over Southeastern Louisiana. The senior from Weyanoke, La. (West Feliciana H.S.), had two sacks, including one in which he forced and recovered a fumble. Scott tallied five total tackles and was part of a defense that held the Lions to just seven points and 231 total offensive yards while forcing three turnovers. The Cowboys are the top-ranked defense in the FCS in total defense and scoring defense.

Honorable Mention:  P.J. Hall, Sam Houston State; B.T. Sanders, Nicholls; Derek Floyd, Central Arkansas

Special Teams Player of the Week: Brandon Cox, Central Arkansas
Cox, a sophomore from Conway, Ark. (Conway H.S.), returned a punt 93 yards for a touchdown in Central Arkansas’ 43-7 win over Houston Baptist. It was the second-longest punt return in UCA history. Cox had three punt returns for 100 yards in the contest.

Honorable Mention: Alex Ball, Lamar; Jean Breaux, McNeese State; Luc Swimberghe, Sam Houston State.

Each school’s sports information director nominates and votes for the players of the week, though is not permitted to vote for his own player. To receive honorable mention, a player must receive votes from 25 percent of the Southland sports information directors.
