Gilpin, Hoover Named Volleyball Players of the Week

FRISCO, Texas – Texas A&M-Corpus Christi sophomore middle blocker Brittany Gilpin was named Southland Conference Women’s Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week while Abilene Christian senior libero Madison Hoover was named Defensive Player of the Week presented by UniversalCoin.com, the league announced Monday.
                                 
Offensive Player of the Week – Brittany Gilpin, A&M-Corpus Christi
Gilpin played a major role in keeping the Islanders undefeated in Southland play, knocking down a career high 16 kills in Thursday’s match at SFA. The Houston, Texas (Westside HS), native also sits second in the Southland with a .485 hitting percentage in conference matches. In the second match of the week, Gilpin added another eight kills while playing error-free in the sweep of Northwestern State. The Islander hit .533 in the match, marking the ninth straight match Gilpin has hit above .350.

Defensive Player of the Week – Madison Hoover, Abilene Christian
Hoover dug out 71 attacks during the Wildcats 3-0 week at home, limiting opposition to a .175 hitting percentage. The Flower Mound, Texas (Flower Mound HS), native had 15 digs in a win over UIW, 31 verses Lamar, and 25 against the Bearkats. Her 31 digs against UIW is her personal best for a four-set match.

Each school’s sports information director nominates and votes for the players of the week, though is not permitted to vote for his or her own player. To receive honorable mention, a player must receive votes from 25 percent of the Southland sports information directors.
