Goedicke, Carroll and Hughes Named Soccer Players of the Week

FRISCO, Texas – McNeese State junior forward Kayla Goedicke, and Central Arkansas sophomore defender Stacia Carroll and sophomore goalkeeper Anna Hughes were named the Southland Conference Women’s Soccer Players of the Week presented by UniversalCoin.com, the league announced Tuesday. Goedicke earned offensive honors while Carroll received defensive accolades and Hughes was tabbed top goalkeeper of the week.
Offensive Player of the Week – Kayla Goedicke, McNeese State
Goedicke registered four points in the Cowgirls 3-2 win at Nicholls last Friday logging two goals as she played in over half of the contest. Goedicke opened the match with a goal and later provided the equalizer to help McNeese overcome a two-game losing skid. It was her second and third goals of the season.

Defensive Player of the Week – Stacia Carroll, Central Arkansas
Carroll, a sophomore from South Jordan, Utah, played a big part in Central Arkansas earning a point against Stephen F. Austin for the first time since 2010. With the Bears trailing 1-0 with just two minutes to play, Carroll launched the ball from midfield, scoring her first goal of the season and evening the match when it bounced over the head of the Ladyjack keeper and into the back of the net.

Goalkeeper of the Week – Anna Hughes, Central Arkansas
Hughes, a sophomore from League City, Texas, had a career day as the Bears earned their first point against league-leading Stephen F. Austin since 2010. Hughes made a career-high 13 saves on 30 shots faced in the double overtime 1-1 draw.

Each school’s sports information director nominates and votes for the players of the week, though is not permitted to vote for his or her own player. To receive honorable mention, a student-athlete must receive votes from 25 percent of the Southland sports information directors.
