FRISCO, Texas – Central Arkansas senior outside hitter Heather Schnars was named Southland Conference Women’s Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week while Texas A&M-Corpus Christi sophomore libero Kate Klepetka was named Defensive Player of the Week presented by UniversalCoin.com, the league announced Monday.

Offensive Player of the Week – Heather Schnars, Central Arkansas
Schnars earned her third offensive honors in four weeks by tallying the match-high in both of Central Arkansas’ straight-set victories on the week. Against Lamar on Thursday, the Downey, Calf. (Downey HS), native hit .415 on her way to 20 kills in three sets, while adding a service ace. Then on Saturday at Sam Houston State, she collected 14 kills while hitting .344 and adding a trio of assists.

Honorable Mention:  Mikayla Shippy, Southeastern La.; Kayla Armer, Houston Baptist, Malina Sanchez, McNeese State.

Defensive Player of the Week – Kate Klepetka, A&M-Corpus Christi
Already the conference leader in digs per set, Klepetka improved on her spectacular season by averaging nearly seven and a half digs per set over the Islanders’ two matches this week. The Allen, Texas (Allen HS), native averaged over seven digs per set in both matches, racking up 22 in Thursday’s sweep of UIW before adding 30 in the four-set victory over Abilene Christian. Klepetka came into the week sixth in the nation in digs per set and her 442 digs this season are already ninth in school history, just 13 shy of her freshman campaign. Her 5.87 digs per set this season would top Islanders’ all-time record books.

Honorable Mention: Megan Nash, Central Arkansas; Allison Doerpinghaus, Houston Baptist; Brooke Balser, Southeastern La., Bridget Justis, McNeese State.

Each school’s sports information director nominates and votes for the players of the week, though is not permitted to vote for his or her own player. To receive honorable mention, a player must receive votes from 25 percent of the Southland sports information directors.
