Abilene Christian’s Shelstead Named Women’s Basketball Player of the Week

FRISCO, Texas – Abilene Christian junior forward Sydney Shelstead has been named Southland Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week honors presented by UniversalCoin.com, the league office announced Monday.
Sydney Shelstead came up one basket shy of matching her career high with 26 points Saturday against Wayland Baptist Her double-double, which included 12 rebounds was the 14th of her career. Shelstead has five games of 20-or-more points in her career. She also tied a career high with 15 field goals attempted in only 26 minutes of action.
Honorable mention this week goes to Houston Baptist senior forward Anna Strickland, UIW sophomore guard Melina Merritt and Nicholls junior guard Hope Pawlowski. To receive honorable mention, a player must receive votes from 25 percent of the Southland women’s basketball sports information directors.
Each school’s sports information director nominates and votes for the players of the week, though is not permitted to vote for his or her own player.
