FRISCO, Texas – Central Arkansas freshman forward Camille Bassett, and Lamar sophomore midfielder M.J. Eckart and sophomore goalkeeper Lauren Lovejoy were named the Southland Conference Women’s Soccer Players of the Week presented by UniversalCoin.com, the league announced Monday. Bassett earned offensive honors while Eckart received defensive accolades and Lovejoy was tabbed top goalkeeper of the week.
 
Offensive Player of the Week – Camille Bassett, Central Arkansas
Bassett, a freshman from Vista, Calif. (Rancho Buena Vista H.S.), played a pivotal role in Central Arkansas’ win over Northwestern State, which clenched a postseason berth for the Bears. In the 22nd minute, she beat Northwestern State goalkeeper Brooke Bourbonais to the near post for what would turn out to be the game-winner. In the 60th minute, she added an insurance goal on a breakaway, winning the one-on-one for her 11th goal of the season.

Defensive Player of the Week – M.J. Eckart, Lamar
Eckart, a sophomore from Flower Mound, Texas (Marcus H.S.), played every second of Lamar’s perfect 2-0 weekend, helping the Cardinals’ defensive efforts, which allowed only one goal between the two games. In addition, Eckart scored the game-winning goal of Lamar’s 1-0 shutout against McNeese State in the season finale.

Goalkeeper of the Week – Lauren Lovejoy, Lamar
Lovejoy, a sophomore from Port Neches, Texas (Port Neches-Groves H.S.), played a key role in Lamar’s perfect 2-0 weekend. She made 10 saves in the net in a 2-1 upset win at Houston Baptist before making 12 saves in a shutout win at McNeese State. Lovejoy leads the Southland Conference and is second in the nation with a school-record 162 saves this season.

Each school’s sports information director nominates and votes for the players of the week, though is not permitted to vote for his or her own player. To receive honorable mention, a student-athlete must receive votes from 25 percent of the Southland sports information directors.
