Islanders’ Thomas Named Men’s Basketball Player of the Week

FRISCO, Texas – Texas A&M-Corpus Christi junior forward Rashawn Thomas has been named the Southland Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week presented by UniversalCoin.com, the league office announced Monday.
Thomas led A&M-Corpus Christi to a perfect 3-0 record on the week including wins over Furman and Elon at the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament. The junior from Oklahoma City, Okla. (Southeast H.S.), scored in double figures in all three games, averaging 13.3 points per game. Thomas also averaged 7.3 rebounds, 2.0 blocks and 1.3 steals for the week. Thomas, who now has 88 blocks for his career, ranks fifth all-time in Islander history.
Honorable mention this week goes to Stephen F. Austin senior guard/forward Thomas Walkup, Nicholls junior forward Ja’Dante’ Frye and McNeese State junior guard Jamaya Burr.
Each school’s sports information director nominates and votes for the players of the week, though is not permitted to vote for his own player. To receive honorable mention, a player must receive votes from 25 percent of the Southland sports information directors.
