Islanders’ Thomas Named Men’s Basketball Player of the Week

FRISCO, Texas – Texas A&M-Corpus Christi junior forward Rashawn Thomas has been named the Southland Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week presented by UniversalCoin.com, the league office announced Monday.
Thomas led A&M-Corpus Christi to two wins to help extend the team’s win streak to five games. The junior from Oklahoma City, Okla. (Southeast H.S.), recorded double-doubles in both games, with 10 points and 12 rebounds in a 61-48 win over Austin Peay and 17 points and 19 rebounds in a 47-39 win over Texas State. His 19 rebounds against the Bobcats were a career high and the second-most in school history. Thomas, who averaged 13.5 points, 15.5 rebounds and 3.0 blocks in the two games, now leads the league in rebound (8.9) and blocks (2.6).
Honorable mention this week goes to Houston Baptist senior guard Anthony Odunsi, Lamar freshman guard Nick Garth and Nicholls junior forward Ja’Dante’ Frye.
Each school’s sports information director nominates and votes for the players of the week, though is not permitted to vote for his own player. To receive honorable mention, a player must receive votes from 25 percent of the Southland sports information directors.
