FRISCO, Texas – Houston Baptist senior forward Monet Neal has been named Southland Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week honors presented by UniversalCoin.com, the league office announced Monday.
Neal scored a season-high 19 points as HBU defeated Texas Southern for the first time since 2009 and the first time on TSU’s home floor. Prior to that, she had an 18-point, 17-rebound game against Trinity, as she set a new career high with four blocked shots. Neal shot 47 percent from the floor and went 9-for-10 from the charity stripe. Neal has scored in double figures in three of the last four games.
Honorable mention this week goes to Abilene Christian junior guard Alexis Mason, Lamar senior guard JaMeisha Edwards and Southeastern Louisiana sophomore guard Taylin Underwood. To receive honorable mention, a player must receive votes from 25 percent of the Southland women’s basketball sports information directors.
Each school’s sports information director nominates and votes for the players of the week, though is not permitted to vote for his or her own player.
