SUGAR LAND, Texas
– No. 7 Houston Baptist defeated No. 6 Central Arkansas 6-1 Thursday night at Constellation Field to advance in the 2015 Conference Tournament.
Central Arkansas freshman Ty Tice scored on a wild pitch to give the Bears a 1-0 lead over Houston Baptist in the top of the second inning.
Inclement weather moved into the area during the top of the third inning for a 2:22 rain and lightning delay.
In the third inning, Houston Baptist junior Louie Payetta single up the left side to advance senior Thomas Clay while junior Greg Espinosa picked up the first run for the Huskies. Senior Curtis Jones singled to right field, scoring Clay to take a 2-1 lead over the Bears.
The Huskies extend their lead, 3-1, in the fourth inning on a groundout while junior Austin Saenz picked up his first run of the tournament. HBU made it a 4-1 ballgame on an Andrew Alvarez single up the right side in the bottom of the fifth inning.
In the eighth inning, Jones singled to drive in senior Zach Nehrir and Clay as the Huskies went up 6-1 against the Bears.
Huskie right-hander senior Taylor Wright pitched a complete game while giving up one run off of six hits to the Bears.
No. 7 Houston Baptist advance to take on the winnr of No. 2 Northwestern State and No. 6 Central Arkansas Friday at 4 p.m. in Game 11 which will be broadcasted on ESPN 3.
