Southland Conference Announces Football Players of the Week

FRISCO, Texas – Lamar junior running back Kade Harrington, Southeastern Louisiana junior linebacker Demareyeh Lane and McNeese State freshman placekicker Trent Manuel earned Southland Conference Football Player of the Week honors presented by UniversalCoin.com, the league office announced Monday. Harrington took offensive honors while Lane was named defensive player of the week and Manuel was tabbed the top special teams player.
   
Offensive Player of the Week:  Kade Harrington, Lamar
Harrington score Lamar’s first two touchdowns against Big 12 foe Baylor. The junior from Kingwood, Texas (Kingwood H.S.), scored his first touchdown on an 11-yard run after breaking a tackle at the line of scrimmage. Against the No. 4 team in the FBS, Harrington tallied 56 yards on 16 carries and two touchdowns.

Defensive Player of the Week:  Demareyeh Lane, Southeastern Louisiana
Lane helped power a Southeastern Louisiana defense that force nine turnovers and scored three defensive touchdowns in the Lions’ 28-17 win over Florida Tech. The junior linebacker from Oakland, Calif. (Castro Valley H.S.), picked off two of the five Lions’ interceptions, including a 58-yard interception return for a touchdown to clinch the win. He also recorded six total tackles, including one for a loss, and two pass breakups in the victory.

Special Teams Player of the Week: Trent Manuel, McNeese State
Manuel, a freshman from Orange, Texas (Little Cypress-Mauriceville H.S.), went a perfect 4-for-4 on point-after attempts in the collegiate debut. Manuel also connected on field goals from 20 and 22 yards in the Cowboys’ 43-6 season-opening win over UIW. Manuel accounted for 10 of McNeese’s points in the contest.

Each school’s sports information director nominates and votes for the players of the week, though is not permitted to vote for his own player. To receive honorable mention, a player must receive votes from 25 percent of the Southland sports information directors.
