Southland Conference Statement on the Retirement Announcement of Lamar University Baseball Coach Jim Gilligan:
Southland Conference Commissioner Tom Burnett: “By any measure, Jim Gilligan is one of the greatest coaches in the history of the Southland Conference, and we celebrate his fantastic career in baseball, first as an all-Southland pitcher and then as one of college baseball’s most accomplished coaches. With over 1,300 career wins at Lamar, Coach Gilligan has set a standard for coaching success that may be impossible to surpass, and we are very proud of our league’s association with him for nearly five decades. We salute Jim Gilligan and his devoted wife LaVerne on an incredible career in college baseball, and we wish them the very best in retirement following the 2016 season.”
