Baresh, Stahlman Named Volleyball Players of the Week

FRISCO, Texas – Texas A&M-Corpus Christi senior outside hitter Ivy Baresh was named Southland Conference Women’s Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week while Lamar junior libero Lauren Stahlman was named Defensive Player of the Week presented by UniversalCoin.com, the league announced Monday.
 
Offensive Player of the Week – Ivy Baresh, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi
Baresh was a big part of the Islanders attack in a 3-1 week, which included the program’s first victory over Rice and a 1-0 start to Southland play after sweeping Central Arkansas on the road. The Arlington, Texas (Martin HS), native was named the MVP of the Central Arkansas Invitational after leading the Islanders to the title. Baresh matched her career-high with 21 kills in the match with Louisiana Tech. She was also a pivotal part of the Islanders rally to defeat Alabama State from down 2-0. In the third set, Baresh entered for the first time in the match and had six kills to ignite the comeback.

Defensive Player of the Week – Lauren Stahlman, Lamar
Stahlman had a great performance, and it earned her Cardinal Classic all-tournament team honors.  The Plano, Texas (Plano HS), native finished the weekend with a tournament-best 5.18 digs per set average and had only on reception error in 73 total attempts. She recorded a career-high 31 digs against UTRGV in the tournament opener. The libero also accounted for eight assists as Lamar won all three of their matches.

Each school’s sports information director nominates and votes for the players of the week, though is not permitted to vote for his or her own player. To receive honorable mention, a player must receive votes from 25 percent of the Southland sports information directors.
