Abendschein, Kresevic and Delaney Named Soccer Players of the Week

FRISCO, Texas – Houston Baptist junior midfielder Allison Abendschein, Southeastern Louisiana sophomore defender Maddie Kresevic and sophomore goalkeeper Megan Delaney were named the Southland Conference Women’s Soccer Players of the Week presented by UniversalCoin.com, the league announced Tuesday. Abendschein earned offensive honors while Kresevic received defensive accolades and Delaney was tabbed top goalkeeper of the week.
Offensive Player of the Week – Allison Abendschein, Houston Baptist
Allison Abendschein registered her first 3-point game of her career when the Huskies took UIW Friday night to open league play. She assisted on the game winner, setting up Sabriah Spencer with nine minutes left in regulation. Abendschein scored the Huskies’ first goal of the game, header off a cross in the first half as Houston Baptist opened conference play with a 1-0 mark.

Defensive Player of the Week – Maddie Kresevic, Southeastern Louisiana
Maddie Kresevic scored the game-winning goal in Southeastern Louisiana’s 1-0 victory over McNeese State on Friday as both teams opened conference play. She was a part of a back line that held McNeese State to nine shots on the way to the Lions’ fifth shutout of the season.

Goalkeeper of the Week – Megan Delaney, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi
Megan Delaney anchored the Islanders in net with another great performance. She reached double digits in save with 10 for the third time this season. Statistics also fail to show how active she was on the backline. Punching or catching crosses, charging off her line to clear a ball and her distribution provided a quick transition from defense to offense for the Islanders.
