Aviles, Kresevic and Sabadash Named Soccer Players of the Week

FRISCO, Texas – Lamar sophomore forward Alexus Aviles and Southeastern Louisiana sophomore defender Maddie Kresevic and junior goalkeeper Hope Sabadash were named the Southland Conference Women’s Soccer Players of the Week presented by UniversalCoin.com, the league announced Tuesday. Aviles earned offensive honors while Kresevic received defensive accolades and Sabadash was tabbed top goalkeeper of the week.
Offensive Player of the Week – Alexus Aviles, Lamar
Aviles, a sophomore from Lakewood, Calif. (Lakewood H.S.), had two goals in each of Lamar’s games over the weekend. Aviles had the game-tying and game-winning goals in Lamar’s 3-2 win at Texas-El Paso. She added two more goals in Sunday’s loss at New Mexico State.

Defensive Player of the Week – Maddie Kresevic, Southeastern Louisiana
Kresevic, a sophomore from Solon, Ohio (Solon H.S.), helped Southeastern Louisiana finish with two shutouts and hold three opponents to two combined goals in a 2-0-1 week. On Tuesday, she added two assists from her outside defender position in a 5-0 victory over Southern.

Goalkeeper of the Week – Hope Sabadash, Southeastern Louisiana
Sabadash, a junior from Mississauga, Ontario, Canada (Our Lady of Mount Secondary School), was effective in goal for Southeastern Louisiana during the Lady Lions’ 2-0-1 week. She earned shutout victories over Southern and Arkansas State. On Sunday, she finished with a season-high nine saves in a 2-2 tie at Louisiana-Monroe.
Honorable Mention: Kylie Hambleton, Sam Houston State; Lillie Ehlert, Stephen F. Austin; Sydney Newton, Abilene Christian.
Each school’s sports information director nominates and votes for the players of the week, though is not permitted to vote for his or her own player. To receive honorable mention, a student-athlete must receive votes from 25 percent of the Southland sports information directors.
