FRISCO, Texas – Abilene Christian junior guard Alexis Mason has been named Southland Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week honors presented by UniversalCoin.com, the league office announced Monday.
Mason helped the Wildcats continue their best start since the 1996-97 season (12-2) with 23 points against Northwestern State and 19 points and a career-high nine rebounds at Nicholls. She logged 40 minutes in the three-point win in Thibodaux for the second complete-game of her career. Mason made more than 50 percent of her shots in the Wildcats’ first win in program history against the Lady Demons, finishing with 23 points for the 11th 20-point game of her career. After going 3-3 from the free-throw line versus NSU, Mason cracked the top-10 nationally in free throw percentage at .900.
Honorable mention this week goes to Lamar senior guard Addesha Collins, Central Arkansas junior guard Maggie Proffitt, Houston Baptist senior forward Anna Strickland and Northwestern State senior guard Janell Perez. To receive honorable mention, a player must receive votes from 25 percent of the Southland women’s basketball sports information directors.
Each school’s sports information director nominates and votes for the players of the week, though is not permitted to vote for his or her own player.
