Abilene Christian’s Mason Named Women’s Basketball Player of the Week

FRISCO, Texas – Abilene Christian junior guard Alexis Mason has been named Southland Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week honors presented by UniversalCoin.com, the league office announced Monday.
Mason averaged 23.5 points and 3.0 assists per game leading the Wildcats to consecutive conference victories over McNeese State and Stephen F. Austin. She scored 15 of her 21 points versus SFA in a dominant fourth quarter as the Wildcats turned a 60-59 deficit early in the final quarter into a 15-point win. Mason scored 12 of the Wildcats' 26 points in their decisive run, including a 3-pointer and going 9-of -0 from the free throw line. Mason totaled 26 points on 9-17 shooting with two 3-pointers and six free throws against McNeese State and one of her two treys was a 25-foot buzzer-beater at the end of the third quarter, which pushed ACU's lead out to 55-48.She then scored 11 fourth-quarter points versus the Cowgirls.
Honorable mention this week goes to Northwestern State senior guard Janelle Perez, Central Arkansas junior guard Maggie Proffitt and McNeese State senior guard Jayln Johnson. To receive honorable mention, a player must receive votes from 25 percent of the Southland women’s basketball sports information directors.
Each school’s sports information director nominates and votes for the players of the week, though is not permitted to vote for his or her own player.
