FRISCO, Texas
– Nicholls’ DeAndre Harris is the week one winner of the Southland Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week award, the league announced Monday. Southland Players of the Week are presented by UniversalCoin.com.
 
The graduate student guard scored 28 points to fuel the Colonels 79-73 upset win over Boston College at Chestnut Hill, Mass., on Friday night. (Nov. 11). Harris, making his debut for Nicholls, scored 17 of his 28 points in the second half to fend off a late surge by the Eagles. The Colonels never trailed and the contest was only tied once.
 
The 6’3” Milwaukee native also grabbed seven rebounds to go with four assists and four steals.
 
The victory is Nicholls first-ever against an ACC foe.
 
The following Southland Men’s Basketball players received Honorable Mention for week one:

  • Rashawn Thomas, A&M-Corpus Christi (Oklahoma City)
  • Erik Thomas, New Orleans (Wesley Chapel, Fla.)
 
Each school’s sports information director nominates and votes for the players of the week, and is not permitted to vote for his or her own student-athlete. To receive honorable mention, a player must receive votes from 25 percent of the Southland sports information directors.
