FRISCO, Texas – A&M-Corpus Christi junior outside hitter Brittany Gilpin and junior middle blocker Megan Nash of Central Arkansas were named Southland Conference Volleyball Players of the Week, presented by UniversalCoin.com, the league announced Monday. This mark’s Gilpin’s third weekly recognition of the season and Nash’s second.
Offensive Player of the Week – Brittany Gilpin, A&M-Corpus Christi
Brittany Gilpin had a pair of big days to lead the Islanders to two wins in the final weekend and a 16-0 record in conference play for the second straight year. On Thursday at Lamar, she knocked down 20 kills to tie her career best performance and hit .419 in the win. She followed that with a 17-kill day against Houston Baptist to finish the week hitting .390. She now ranks ninth in league play hitting .326. Defensively, she added 19 digs to average 2.38 per set and produced her 13th double-double of the season at Lamar. The Islanders enter the 2016 Southland Tournament as the undefeated No. 1 seed for the second straight season. They face off against No. 8 McNeese on Friday, Nov. 18 at 4 p.m. in Conway, Ark.

Defensive Player of the Week – Megan Nash, Central Arkansas
Nash was a force at the net in a pair of victories for the Sugar Bears last week, recording the match-high in blocks in both matches. Against Sam Houston State on Thursday night, she tied her career-high with 12 blocks before adding five more as Central Arkansas limited SFA to a .011 attack percentage on Saturday afternoon. Central Arkansas enter the 2016 Southland Tournament as hosts and the No. 5 seed. They take to the court first on Friday, Nov. 18 against No. 4 Houston Baptist at 6:30 p.m.
