Southeastern Louisiana’s Marlain Veal Named Southland Player of the Week

2016 Southland Men's Basketball Week Three Release (PDF)

FRISCO, Texas
– Southeastern Louisiana guard Marlain Veal is the week two winner of the Southland Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week award, presented by UniversalCoin.com. The Conference made the announcement Monday afternoon.
 
Veal posted a career high 28 points last Monday in the Lions’ 93-76 loss at Tulane.  Playing in his hometown New Orleans, the sophomore also set career highs in field goals (8), free throws attempted (15) and made (9), while recording a team-high four steals.
 
The Helen Cox High School product followed up Monday’s performance with a 22-point output Wednesday in leading Southeastern to an 84-71 victory over Jackson State in Hammond, La.  The 5’9” player went 5-for-5 at the charity stripe and served up six assists in the contest, which moved the Lions to 2-1 on the season.
 
Veal and Southeastern La. will be aiming for their third win tonight when they host Xavier of Louisiana at 7 p.m. CST.

Each school’s sports information director nominates and votes for the players of the week, and is not permitted to vote for his or her own student-athlete. To receive honorable mention, a player must receive votes from 25 percent of the Southland sports information directors.
