FRISCO, Texas
– Following another dominating week for the 2016 regular season champions, the Islanders swept Player of the Week awards for the third time this season. Senior right side hitter Morgan Carlson and junior libero Kate Klepetka were named Southland Conference Volleyball Players of the Week, presented by UniversalCoin.com, the league announced Monday. This marks Klepetka’s third weekly defensive award this season.
 
Offensive Player of the Week – Morgan Carlson, A&M-Corpus Christi
Senior Morgan Carlson continued her hot play with a massive week to lead the Islanders to three more wins. Carlson hit over .300 in each of the three matches, including a 17-kill effort against UIW. In that match, she hit .577 to carry the Islanders to the road win. On Senior Day Saturday, Carlson led the Islanders with 13 kills in her final home match. With the big week, Carlson is now hitting .335 in Southland matches, ranking sixth in the conference.

Defensive Player of the Week – Kate Klepetka, A&M-Corpus Christi
After a quiet Tuesday, Klepetka had a pair of huge games over the weekend. On Thursday, she piled up 21 digs in the sweep of McNeese to help the Islanders clinch their second Southland regular season title. She followed with a 24-dig effort as the Islanders swept Nicholls. With 5.19 digs per set in conference play, she leads the league in that category.

Each school’s sports information director nominates and votes for the players of the week, though is not permitted to vote for his or her own player. To receive honorable mention, a player must receive votes from 25 percent of the Southland sports information directors.
