Hackett, La Tella Earn Women’s Track and Field Weekly Awards

FRISCO, Texas – Abilene Christian junior Alexandria Hackett was named the Southland Conference Women’s Track Athlete of the Week, while Lamar freshman Siliva La Tella earned the Southland Conference Women’s Field Athlete of the Week honors, the league announced Wednesday.
Women’s Track Athlete of the Week – Alexandria Hackett, Abilene Christian
Hackett continued her assault on her school record book with a sixth-place performance and 11 second personal record in the mile in her first attempt at the distance this season. She is ranked first in the Southland by over six seconds, and broke the school record by three seconds.
Honorable Mention: Sharrona Williams, Southeastern La.; Shelby Pesek, Stephen F. Austin; Alexandra Sokolova, Lamar.
Women’s Field Athlete of the Week – Siliva La Tella, Lamar
La Tella set the school record in the triple jump for the second time this season with her latest 41-7.25 jump at the New Mexico Classic. She ranked third at the meet, but was the top collegian. Her mark ranks 37th in the nation and first in the Southland Conference.

Each school’s sports information director nominates and votes for the athletes of the week, though is not permitted to vote for his or her own student-athlete. To receive honorable mention, an athlete must receive votes from 25 percent of the Southland sports information directors
