FRISCO, Texas – UIW senior forward Kyle Hittle has been named the Southland Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week presented by UniversalCoin.com, the league office announced Monday.
 
Hittle led the Cardinals to a pair a victories and bolted the team to third place in the conference standings heading into the final week of the regular season. The senior from New Braunfels, Texas (New Braunfels H.S.), started the week with a 20-point, five-assist and four-rebound showing in a 97-91 win against Houston Baptist, and followed it up with a 30-point, seven-rebound performance in the 89-70 win over Lamar. Hittle shot 60 percent (9-for-15) from behind the arc while going 66.7 percent (18-for-27) from the field.
 
Honorable mention this week goes to Southeastern Louisiana senior guard JaMichael Hawkins, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi junior forward Rashawn Thomas and Abilene Christian freshman guard Jaylen Franklin.
 
Each school’s sports information director nominates and votes for the players of the week, though is not permitted to vote for his own player. To receive honorable mention, a player must receive votes from 25 percent of the Southland sports information directors.
