James, Young Earn Men’s Track and Field Weekly Awards

FRISCO, Texas – Northwestern State sophomore Amir James was named the Southland Conference Men’s Track Athlete of the Week, while Southeastern Louisiana senior Alexander Young earned Southland Conference Men’s Field Athlete of the Week honors, the league announced Wednesday.
Men’s Track Athlete of the Week – Amir James, Northwestern State
James’ 60-meter time pushed him atop the Southland Conference in short sprints, and currently ranks No. 26 nationally. The Missouri City, Texas (Dulles H.S.), native’s 200-meter time was just off his season-best of 21.17 (ranked No. 23 nationally), and matches the 31st-best mark nationally this season. James also ran second leg in Northwestern State’s best time in the 4x400.

Men’s Field Athlete of the Week – Alexander Young, Southeastern Louisiana
Young threw 74 feet, 1 inch (22.58 meters) to break the school record of 73-03.13 held by Adonson Shallow in 2010. The throw ranks No. 2 in the nation for this season. The Nashville, Tenn. (Lavergne H.S.), native also captured the shot put for the third straight meet with a throw of 56-10.75. Young was also third in the weight throw at the Cameron Communications McNeese Indoor Invite Friday with a mark of 65-05.5.
