Cowgirls Sweep Women’s Track and Field Weekly Awards

FRISCO, Texas – McNeese State senior Danielle Epps was named the Southland Conference Women’s Track Athlete of the Week, while fellow McNeese State senior Nicole Casper earned the Southland Conference Women’s Field Athlete of the Week honors, the league announced Wednesday.
 
Women’s Track Athlete of the Week – Danielle Epps, McNeese State
The senior runner took home three metals this weekend as McNeese State hosted the Cowboy Relays. The Houston, Texas (Clearbrook H.S.), native picked up first place finishes in the 100 meter dash and the 4x100 meter relay. Her time of 11.77 seconds is currently ranked No. 1 in the region while the 4x100 time of 46.37 seconds is ranked No. 3. She also ran a leg in the 4x200 meter relay where the Cowgirls took home second place.

Women’s Field Athlete of the Week – Nicole Casper, McNeese State
Casper took first place in the pole vault at the Cowboy Relays in Lake Charles, La. this past weekend. The Buna, Texas (Buna H.S.), native’s mark of 12-09.50 is ranked No. 1 in the Southland Conference and No. 3 in the NCAA East Region.

Each school’s sports information director nominates and votes for the athletes of the week, though is not permitted to vote for his or her own student-athlete. To receive honorable mention, an athlete must receive votes from 25 percent of the Southland sports information directors.
