Hackett, Frazier Earn Women’s Track and Field Weekly Awards

FRISCO, Texas – Abilene Christian junior Alexandria Hackett was named the Southland Conference Women’s Track Athlete of the Week, while Southeastern Louisiana senior Jermisha Frazier earned the Southland Conference Women’s Field Athlete of the Week honors, the league announced Wednesday.
 
Women’s Track Athlete of the Week – Alexandria Hackett, Abilene Christian
Hackett won her 11th race since the start of last outdoor season with a win Saturday at the TCU Invitational. The West Cranston, R. I. (West Cranston H.S.), native’s personal record time of 4:31.44 in the 1500 meters was over two seconds faster than the rest of the 25-woman field and tops in the Southland Conference this outdoor season. Nationally, her time ranks 39th and she was the fastest collegian in the 3K, losing out to former Baylor and All-Big 12 competitor Cate Barrett by less than one second. Hackett’s 3K time is an outdoor personal record.

Women’s Field Athlete of the Week – Jermisha Frazier, Southeastern La.
Frazier shattered Southeastern’s team record in the hammer throw by over 11 feet Thursday at the John Mitchell Alabama Relays, with a second-place throw of 207-04. That throw leads the nation in Division I. The Kenner, La. (Bonnabel H.S.), native also came in seventh in the shot put at 45-9.75 and 11th in the discus at 144-11 on Saturday.

Each school’s sports information director nominates and votes for the athletes of the week, though is not permitted to vote for his or her own student-athlete. To receive honorable mention, an athlete must receive votes from 25 percent of the Southland sports information directors.
