Men’s Track Athlete of the Week – Amir James, Northwestern State
The sophomore sprinter earned three wins at Northwestern State’s home meet. The Missouri City, Texas (Dulles H.S.), native’s anchor leg on the 4x100 helped the Demons post the Southland’s fastest time, a mark that is ranked 40th nationally. His 200-meter (20.97) and 100-meter (10.55) times were also impressive first-place finishes. This is his second weekly award for the 2016 outdoor track and field season.

Honorable Mention: Kerry Gleason, Stephen F. Austin; Clinton Cole, UIW.

Men’s Field Athlete of the Week – Aaron Williams, Northwestern State
The senior triple jumper had another solid performance for the Demons. The Duson, La. (Acadiana H.S.), native’s 52-10 winning mark in the triple jump is the NCAA’s third-ranked performance this season. His second-place long jump mark of 25-0.5 barely missed a season’s best of 25-1.25 that is ranked 19th nationally. This is his second weekly award on the season.

Honorable Mention: Kalvin Singletary, Sam Houston State; Hunter Key, Stephen F. Austin.

Each school’s sports information director nominates and votes for the athletes of the week, though is not permitted to vote for his or her own student-athlete. To receive honorable mention, an athlete must receive votes from 25 percent of the Southland sports information directors.
