Williams, Lord Earn Women’s Track and Field Weekly Awards

FRISCO, Texas – Southeastern Louisiana senior Sharonna Williams was named the Southland Conference Women’s Track Athlete of the Week, while Sam Houston State sophomore Courtney Lord earned the Southland Conference Women’s Field Athlete of the Week honors, the league announced Wednesday.
Women’s Track Athlete of the Week – Sharonna Williams, Southeastern Louisiana
Williams had her first career win in the 100-meter dash in a personal-best mark of 11.67 at the McNeese Spring Time Classic. Williams went on to place second in the 200-meters in 24.12. The 100-meter dash time is the best in the Southland and tied for 80th nationally. The 200 time is the 6th best in the Southland. She also helped the 4x100 relay come in third (46.16).

Women’s Field Athlete of the Week – Courtney Lord, Sam Houston State
Lord earned the top spot in the heptathlon behind a personal-best 5,081 points this weekend at the Carl Knight Invitational in Nacogdoches, Texas. The Buda, Texas (Hays Consolidated H.S.), native secured personal record in the 200 meters (25.78), 800 meters (2:30.78), 100-meter hurdles (14.88) and javelin throw (114-0). Lord finished first in the long jump (18-11.75), second in the javelin, second in the high jump, third in the 200 meters and third in the 800 meters.
