Olsson, Carroll and Ehlert Named Soccer Players of the Week

FRISCO, Texas – Southeastern Louisiana sophomore forward Sofia Olsson, Central Arkansas junior defender Stacia Carroll and Central Arkansas and Stephen F. Austin junior goalkeeper Lillie Ehlert were named the Southland Conference Women’s Soccer Players of the Week presented by UniversalCoin.com, the league announced Tuesday. Olsson earned offensive honors while Carroll received defensive accolades and Ehlert was tabbed the top goalkeeper for the week.
Offensive Player of the Week – Sofia Olsson, Southeastern Louisiana
Olsson tied a school record, accomplished twice before, with four goals in a 5-1 win at Southern on Thursday. Olsson scored the first goal in the opening three minutes of the match, then added three in a seven-minute span late in the contest. Her four goals and eight points are the most in a game in the Southland this season and both are tied for the national lead. She also took 10 shots, six on goal, in the match.

Defensive Player of the Week – Stacia Carroll, Central Arkansas
Carroll and the Central Arkansas backline continued their stellar play this week, allowing just one goal in 180 minutes. The Bears pushed their shutout streak to four matches on Friday night, limiting Big 12 opponent Kansas State to just three shots on goal, thanks in large part to Carroll’s command of the back line. On Sunday, the Bears pushed their opponent-scoreless streak to 465:20 before Missouri State scored the first goal UCA had allowed in just over five matches’ worth of game time. Despite the goal, Carroll again helped the Bears dominate possession, limiting the maroon Bears to just four shots on goal. On the year, Carroll and the rest of the UCA defense have allowed just six goals in eight matches

Goalkeeper of the Week – Lillie Ehlert, Stephen F. Austin
Ehlert had her first shutout of the season on Sunday afternoon against UTEP. She was the only one in the net for SFA all weekend. Ehlert held out against the onslaught of Texas State shots (23) to help carry her team into double overtime.

Each school’s sports information director nominates and votes for the players of the week, though is not permitted to vote for his or her own player. To receive honorable mention, a student-athlete must receive votes from 25 percent of the Southland sports information directors.
