FRISCO, Texas – Texas A&M-Corpus Christi sophomore middle blocker Madison Fitzsimmons and fellow Islander, junior libero Kate Klepetka, have been named this week’s Southland Conference Volleyball Players of the Week, presented by UniversalCoin.com, the league announced Monday.
Offensive Player of the Week – Madison Fitzsimmons, A&M-Corpus Christi
Fitzsimmons was brilliant for the Islanders in the opening week of conference play, helping the Blue and Green to a pair of sweeps. At Sam Houston State, Fitzsimmons hit .636 with eight kills as part of a school record .461 hitting percentage for the Islanders. She followed that up with an impressive 14 kill performance to lead all players against ACU. The Islanders are currently second in the Southland in hitting percentage (.191), kills (616, 12.57/set) and lead the conference in blocks (114.5, 2.34/set).

Defensive Player of the Week – Kate Klepetka, A&M-Corpus Christi
Klepetka engineered an Islander defense that stifled Sam Houston State and Abilene Christian to a combined .080 hitting percentage. The Allen, Texas native was particularly impressive against ACU, racking up 23 digs in the sweep to average nearly eight digs per set. Klepetka currently ranks third in the Southland with 249 digs over 49 sets, averaging 5.08 per set. The Islanders sit atop the conference standings with a 7-6 record, 2-0 in conference play.
