McNeese Sweeps Week Five Cross Country Awards

FRISCO, Texas – Following an impressive pair of performances at their home meet, McNeese’s Enrique Soto and Katja Woelfl were named the Southland Conference Cross Country Athletes of the Week. Southland Athletes of the Week are presented by

Soto posted a first-place finish to lead the Cowboy men to the team title while Woelfl finished second overall to pace the Cowgirls to a team runner-up finish.
McNeese next heads northeast to Princeton, N.J., to compete in its final regular-season race of the season, the Princeton Invitational.
Men’s Athlete of the Week: Enrique Soto, McNeese - Sr. - Dubberly, La.
Soto earned his first individual win of the season after taking first place out of 68 competitors at the team’s home meet, the McNeese Cowboy Stampede. He was the only Southland runner to register a first-place individual finish this week, clocking a four-mile time of 19:13.1. His finish helped the Cowboys cruise to the team title while also being a key in the team improving to No. 4 in this week’s U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) South Central Region rankings.

Women’s Athlete of the Week: Katja Woelfl, McNeese - Sr. - Ellhofen, Germany
Woelfl posted her second-straight top 10 finish with a second-place finish on Saturday at the Cowboy Stampede 5K race. Finishing with a time of 17:38.2, she helped the Cowgirls place second in the team standings, boosting them to No. 12 in the latest USTFCCCA South Central Region rankings.
