2017 Southland Indoor Track & Field Week Six Recap
FRISCO, Texas – Junior De’Shalyn Jones of Northwestern State and sophomore Tristyn Allen from Sam Houston State were named Southland Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week, the league announced Wednesday. Southland Conference Athletes of the Week are presented by

This is the second field honor of the season for the Bearkats after Kristine Hanks earned the award on Jan. 18 after week two.
Women’s Track Athlete of the Week – De’Shalyn Jones, Northwestern State
Jones owns the first-ranked time in the Southland in both the 200- and 400-meter after a pair of gold medal performances in the 2
nd Annual Gorilla Classic in Pittsburg, Kan. Both her times in the 200m (24.10) and 400m (54.29) are now school records for Indoor Track & Field at Northwestern State. In the 60m, she placed fourth with a time of 7.57, ranking her fourth overall in the Southland. Her 400m time clocked in below the 2017 UASTF Indoor National Championships qualifying time of 54.50.

Women’s Field Athlete of the Week – Tristyn Allen, Sam Houston State
Tristyn Allen moved up to No. 20 nationally and first in the Southland Conference with a personal-best 42 feet, 6.25 inches in the triple jump at the Dunamis Indoor Classic in Frisco. The sophomore captured two first-place results, coming against in-state competition from TCU, Stephen F. Austin and UT Arlington, among others. The Sealy, Texas product also took home the top spot in the long jump, posting the league’s best mark on the weekend at 19 feet, 3.5 inches. Her season-best long jump distance of 19 feet, 5.25 inches checks in at second place in the conference entering the Southland championships.

Northwestern State and Sam Houston State are both off during the upcoming weekend before the start of the Southland Indoor Championships in Birmingham, Ala. next week on Feb. 22 and 23.
