Nave, Casper Named Women’s Indoor Athletes of the Week

2017 Southland Indoor Track & Field Week Five Recap
 
FRISCO, Texas – Stephen F. Austin freshman Imani Nave and McNeese senior Nicole Casper were named Women’s Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week, the league announced Wednesday. This mark’s Casper’s second straight weekly honor. Southland Conference Athletes of the Week are presented by UniversalCoin.com.
 
Women’s Track Athlete of the Week – Imani Nave, Stephen F. Austin
Nave picked up the lone female individual title at the Air Force Team Challenge for the Ladyjacks. The freshman has continued to exceed expectations at each new event. The Tomball, Texas native won her first collegiate title in the 200-meter, which ties her for second in the Southland Conference standings with a time of 24.89. Her time was first out of 17 finishers. She also set a new personal record in the 60-meter sprint, where she finished 0.06 seconds behind the first-place finisher with a time of 7.58.

Women’s Field Athlete of the Week – Nicole Casper, McNeese
Casper took home back-to-back Field Athlete of the Week awards after setting a new school record in the pole vault for the second straight week, this time clearing a height of 13-7.25 at the LSU Bayou Bengal meet. She continues to rank No. 1 in the Southland Conference and has moved up to 15th nationally.

Stephen F. Austin comes to Frisco this weekend for the Dunamis Indoor Classic on Thursday to Saturday, Feb. 9 to 11. McNeese heads to Birmingham CrossPlex again on Saturday, Feb. 11 for the second Samford Indoor Invitational.
 
Each school’s sports information director nominates and votes for the athletes of the week, though is not permitted to vote for his or her own student-athlete. To receive honorable mention, an athlete must receive votes from 25 percent of the Southland sports information directors.
