2017 Southland Outdoor Track & Field Weekly Recap
FRISCO, Texas – Northwestern State earned both Athlete of the Week awards following a strong team performance at the McNeese Cowboy Relays in Lake Charles, La. on March 11. The men’s team finished first with 119 points while the women posted a top team score with 133. The Demons and Lady Demons combined for 252 points to win the 2017 Bob Hayes Cup. Men’s Athlete of the Week – Micah Larkins, Northwestern State
The sophomore placed first at the Cowboy Relays in the 100-meter. His time of 10.45 ranks second nationally out of 95 NCAA sprinters. The Haughton High School product was also a member of the 4x100 team that won the relay event with a time of 40.11. That time is also second in the nation, behind only UCLA.
Honorable Mention: Brant Cook (Central Arkansas), 4x200m Relay (McNeese)
Women’s Athlete of the Week – Kelsey Frank, Northwestern State
Junior Kelsey Frank won the Javelin throw at the Cowboy Relays, beating out 11 other competitors. The Kinder, La. native’s mark of 155-01.25 currently ranks fourth in the nation.

The Demons and Lady Demons next compete today at the Jim Mize Invitational in Ruston, La. before heading west to Fort Worth to take part in the TCU Invitational this weekend on March 17-18.
