Elimination Bracket – First Round

No. 4 Stephen F. Austin vs. No. 8 Louisiana Tech
Stephen F. Austin looked to be in trouble against the eighth-seeded Lady Techsters, finding themselves in a 624-590 hole after the seventh frame. Stephen F. Austin left nothing to chance in the baker total pinfall series, and despite a 220 and 191 from the Lady Techsters to close out their series, the Ladyjacks came away with a 953-897 victory to secure their advancement to round two of the elimination bracket.

No. 6 Tulane vs. No. 7 Valparaiso
The elimination match-up between the Green Wave and Crusaders opened with a tight traditional match-up that saw Tulane cling to a narrow 448-441 lead entering the final four frames of play. However, it was Valparaiso’s depth that would carry them to the finish with all five bowlers registering a 165 or higher, while Tulane could not outlast them with two bowlers in the 140s. The Crusaders took an 882-830 victory into the baker total pinfall series.

The Green Wave turned the tables in the five-game baker series, notching three 200-plus games and a 194 to defeat Valparaiso but over 100. Tulane would force a best-of-seven baker series with a 964-855 win.

After exchanging wins to open the best-of-seven series, Valparaiso would take the next two to jump out to a 3-1 lead. However, the Green Wave put together their best performances thus far, notching a monster trio of games (239, 216, 224), charging past the Crusaders to take a 4-3 victory and send Valparaiso home. Tulane advances to take on No. 5 Monmouth on Saturday.
