FRISCO, Texas – Christoph Graf broke a nearly 40-year old program record for McNeese while Tristyn Allen moved into the No. 1 triple jump spot in the conference en route to earning Outdoor Athlete of the Week honors. Southland Conference Athletes of the Week are presented by UniversalCoin.com.
 
Men’s Athlete of the Week – Christoph Graf, McNeese
Graf broke a 38-year old program record when he set a new mark in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a first-place time of 8:49.42 at the LSU Alumni Gold meet. He bested the top mark of 8:53.0 that was held by David Kohrs since 1979. His mark moved him to No. 1 in the conference rankings, eighth in the East Region and 18th nationally.

Women’s Athlete of the Week – Tristyn Allen, Sam Houston State
Allen moved into the top spot in the Southland Conference in the triple jump by more than a foot with a leap of 41-05.25. The sophomore finished sixth, besting competitors from Texas, Clemson and McNeese at the LSU Alumni Gold meet. The top-10 finish was the fourth for Allen in the event this spring.

McNeese next heads to Natchitoches, La. for Northwestern State’s Leon Johnson Invitational this weekend on April 29. Sam Houston State has a weekend off from competition before heading to Houston, Texas for the Tom Tellez Invitational on May 5.
 
These will be the final competitions for both teams before the 2017 Southland Outdoor Championships in New Orleans on May 12-14.
 
Each school’s sports information director nominates and votes for the athletes of the week, though is not permitted to vote for his or her own student-athlete. To receive honorable mention, an athlete must receive votes from 25 percent of the Southland sports information directors.
