Hurricane Harvey Alters Opening Week for Southland Football

FRISCO, Texas – The landfall of Hurricane Harvey along the Texas coast and the storm’s predicted course has impacted the opening week football schedules. Third-ranked Sam Houston State’s home clash with No. 7 Richmond, originally scheduled for Sunday, Aug. 27, was postponed and moved to McLane Stadium in Waco, Texas. The game is scheduled for a 6 p.m. kickoff on Friday, Sept. 1.
Admission will be free for all attendees. The game will be streamed on ESPN3.
Pending any weather developments throughout the week, all other week one games are on as scheduled.
Southland schools that are closed include Houston Baptist (through Sept. 4), Lamar (opening Aug. 29), McNeese (closed Aug. 28), Sam Houston State (through Sept. 4) and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (until at least Sept. 5).
