Chastadie Barrs Claims Fifth Weekly Honor of the Season

FRISCO, Texas – Lamar’s Chastadie Barrs is the Southland Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for the fifth time this season, the league announced Monday. All Southland weekly awards are presented by MidSouth Bank.

Barrs helped the Cardinals to a 2-0 record on the week with a 94-70 win over Northwestern State Wednesday and an 81-76 victory at home over Sam Houston State Saturday. The DeSoto, Texas native recorded her 600th steal on Saturday to become only the second player in NCAA Division I history to record 600 or more steals in a career.

Basketball Player of the Week – Chastadie Barrs, Lamar – Sr. – Guard – DeSoto, Texas
The senior guard averaged 18.5 points, 8.0 steals, 7.0 assists and 6.5 rebounds throughout the week. At Northwestern State, Barrs tabbed her fifth double-digit steals performance (10) moving her into second-place on the NCAA all-time career steals list with 600. In Lamar’s win over Sam Houston State, Barrs also recorded her 647th career assist, breaking a 26-year old program record set by Ramona Jones. The senior has racked up nine double-double performances this season and leads the nation with 6.04 steals per game.

Southland weekly award winners are nominated and voted upon by each school’s sports information director. Voting for one’s own athlete is not permitted. To earn honorable mention, a student-athlete must appear on 25 percent of ballots.
